IRHA started to work in Nepal in 2011 when, in collaboration with Kanchan Nepal, a project from our programme Blue Schools improved the conditions in four schools in the region of Kaski. Its success resulted to the formulation of a new project, “Upscaling the benefits of the first Blue Schools Project in Kaski region, Nepal” addressed to five schools in the same mountainous region. In July 2016, IRHA and Kanchan Nepal completed the work in the first school in Anandajyoti. This became possible with the financial support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and SITSE, a group of Swiss Companies providing services in the field of water and energy. Different obstacles (the difficulties encountered during the post-earthquake period, the energy crises in September 2015, the construction of a new road near the project site which delayed the delivery of materials, and other) which our local partner was obliged to overcome made the satisfaction of the achievement even more dense.
Today, the Anandajyoti school PACT committee manage the utilization of the rainwater (total volume of the reservoirs 50m³ which are filled many times per year) and the maintenance of hygienic standards of 14 new sanitation units. Trees planted by children in the schoolyard changed the environment and the volley ball field starts to be not only the place for physical exercise and fun but also for education in gender equality and fair play.
