The judges have deliberated and decided on the winners of the 2009 Raindrops Award. The aim of this competition was to sensitise the public to the importance of "blue gold", by demonstrating (through Video Films) the advantages of catching and using rainwater. There was stiff competition, but the judges managed to narrow it down to the top three entries.
The winners are as follows:
The film in first place is ‘Right Under Our Nose’ by Roger El Santos. It was chosen due to its artistic merit and the way it very clearly and simply demonstrates the use of rainwater harvesting.
In second place is ‘Bringing Home Rain’ by Nate Stell of the Rainwater Club. This film shows how it is possible to be self-sufficient with the help of rainwater harvesting. The relevance of the example combined with the clear advantages of rainwater harvesting, resulted in this video coming in such a high position.
In a close third was Marcus Bicknell from RainWater Harvesting Ltd with ‘Rain Director’. This entry was successful because it shows how rainwater harvesting can be utilised in Europe, to reduce both the amount of water and energy used in homes and other buildings.
